Messaging

Replies, edits, disappearing timers, media, polls, live location, search and drafts.

Sending and formatting messages

Type into the message box and send. Drafts are saved automatically per chat, see in-chat search and drafts so a half-written message survives switching away and back.

Replying, editing, and deleting messages

Long-press any message to reply to it, edit it (if it's yours), or copy its text. Deleting gives you two distinct choices:

  • Delete for me removes the message from your own view only; the other side still has it.
  • Delete for everyone asks to remove it from the conversation for all participants.

Forwarding messages

Forward any message to another chat or contact from its long-press menu, the same way you would reply to it.

Pinning messages

Pin a message to keep it visible at the top of a conversation. In a one-to-one chat you get a choice: "pin for me only" keeps it pinned just on your device, while "pin for both" pins it for the other person too.

Starring messages

Star (favourite) any message from its long-press menu. Every starred message across every chat is collected in one place: Settings → Starred Messages.

Reactions

DChat has 10 animated reactions: Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sad, Angry, Fire, Clap, Pray, and Rocket. Six of them show first in the quick-access bar when you react to a message; the remaining four are one tap further in the same picker.

Disappearing messages

There are exactly five options: Off, 24 hours, 7 days, 1 month, 3 months. Turning this on only affects messages sent after you change the setting, nothing already in the chat is retroactively removed.

Voice messages and video notes

Record and send a voice message, or a round video note, directly from the chat. Both are treated like any other attachment for delivery and storage purposes.

Albums, files, and the image size cap

Send an album of 2 to 10 items at once, or send files individually. Images are capped at 50 MB, enforced on your device before anything uploads.

Polls and todo lists

Polls are anonymous by default, with an option to allow multiple answers per voter. Todo lists let a chat track shared items and check them off.

Live location

Share a one-time location, or a live location that keeps updating for a duration you choose when you send it.

In-chat search and drafts

Search inside any conversation to jump to a specific message. Unsent text is auto-saved as a draft per chat, so leaving a conversation mid-message doesn't lose it. Message translation is also available from within a chat when you need it.
