Stickers and GIFs, Message Drafts, Checklists, My Notes and Multi-Device

A big one for everyday use. Most of this update is about the things you touch a hundred times a day.

  • Stickers, GIFs and an animated emoji keyboard
  • Message drafts saved per chat
  • Collaborative checklists
  • My Notes, a private space synced across your devices
  • Link and manage multiple devices by QR code

Stickers, GIFs and animated emoji

There is a proper keyboard now: an animated sticker pack browser, a GIF tab, and animated emoji, all in one panel next to the composer. Stickers animate rather than sitting there as flat images, and a suggestion strip offers matching stickers as you type.

Drafts, checklists and My Notes

Anything you type and do not send is now kept as a draft for that specific chat, reply context included, so backing out of a conversation mid-sentence no longer throws the sentence away.

Checklists are a message type: send one into a chat and everyone in the conversation can tick items off. My Notes is a private conversation with yourself that syncs across every device you have linked.

More than one device

You can link additional devices by scanning a QR code, and manage the ones you have linked from settings. Your identity keys stay on your devices; linking moves what is needed to the new one rather than putting anything on a server.

Group calls connect in under two seconds

Joining a group call used to take around twelve seconds. It now takes under two. The delay turned out to be a network discovery step being performed serially before anything else could happen.

Also in this update

Custom chat themes, wallpapers and appearance settings. Media viewer improvements, and a batch of bug fixes.
